AMP Technology Centre hosts Formula Racing Event
15/03/2011
As part of the Global Manufacturing Festival, a fun afternoon was organised by Sheffield Hallam and Sheffield University whose students are building Formula One Racing cars for the International Formula Student Competition.
The AMP Technology Centre hosted the special Formula One Student Showcase for both Sheffield Universities plus pupils from Bradfield and Ridgewood schools. The single seat racing cars are in the process of being built and people were invited to see how they are progressing and how they are being designed and developed. The Universities are looking for local companies to sponsor the car and team giving them a chance to play a key part in this very driven team!
The teams of undergraduates are studying mechanical engineering, automotive design technology and business and are doing this in their spare time. The aim is to have the car fully built by mid-June and then to start testing it.
The car will be racing at Silverstone in mid July along with students from other Universities around the world and it will be the first time that students from Sheffield Hallam have competed at Silverstone since 2004.
The Bromley Skeleton Bobsleigh simulator was also set up especially for the event!
